On Friday, September 6th our Fighting Irish Football Team travels Walsh Jesuit to take on the Warriors at 7:00pm.
The Fighting Irish and The Walsh Jesuit Warriors have a long standing tradition, where the winner takes home “The Bell.” Since 1969, the Fighting Irish of Akron have been battling the Warriors of Cuyahoga Falls. Very often this game is underrated as a rivalry game by the general public because of the importance stressed on the STVM-Hoban game. Even though the Hoban game is played on a larger stage, the importance of the Walsh game runs just as high in the eyes of the Fighting Irish. With only 10 miles in between one another, these schools battle each year on the respective home team’s field – playing for the right to possess “The Bell” for that given year. Of the nine state championship football teams in Summit County, STVM and Walsh account for seven of them. Therefore, this matchup between two prominent football programs in the state of Ohio is always sure to be an exciting one.
