Varsity Wrestling · STVM Hires New Wrestling Coach

STVM is excited to announce their new Head Wrestling Coach, Mr. Dan Rooney.

Dan Rooney has been actively involved in the sport for over 30 years and was a member of the previous coaching staff here at STVM.  An Akron native, Dan wrestled for the North Akron Wrestling Club from ages 7-14, where he was a three-time youth state placer and a two-time state champion. He went on to start Varsity as a Freshman on the #2 nationally ranked Walsh Jesuit Warriors team.  He was a 1998 State Champion and 2000 State Runner-Up for the Warriors. Graduating from Walsh Jesuit High School in 2000, Dan attended Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, receiving a scholarship.

After returning home to Ohio following multiple shoulder surgeries, Dan continued to pursue wrestling through coaching.  Over the last 10 years, Dan has coached many state qualifiers, placers, finalists, and a state champion at Canton McKinley, Canal Fulton Northwest, and St. Vincent-St. Mary as an assistant coach.

Dan has been a member of STVM’s coaching staff since 2016.  Over the past three years, Dan has also been involved in the Shamrock Youth Wrestling Club. He is very honored and proud to step in as the new Head Wrestling Coach at St. Vincent-St. Mary and is looking forward to the upcoming season.
