Results of Sectional Boys Tennis Tournament:
The results of Tuesday’s sectional tournament for the STVM Boys Tennis Team is given below! The boys did a great job playing to the best of their ability and some played there finest matches all year! Every boy in singles and doubles all won at least one match and we played in three matches that determined who went to the District Tournament! The only tournament losses that our team had (3 singles and 2 doubles) were to eventual district qualifiers!
Congratulations to Michael Chmura who qualified for the District Tournament! Michael played exceptional tennis and won his three matches against Canton Central Catholic 6-0, 6-0, Canton South 6-0, 6-1 and St. Thomas Aquinas 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the District Tournament! Michael will play on Thursday, May 10th to determine his seeding for the District Tournament!
Benjamen Rodgers played great in winning his first match against Triway 6-0, 6-0 but lost a tough match to the number one singles player from Norwayne 6-2, 6-4 who eventually qualified for the district tournament. Benjamen played really good and hit great shots during his match! The rallys were long and hard and Benjamen played outstanding tennis!
Kevin Reese played extremely well in his first match against Canton South and won 6-2, 6-4! He then faced the number one seed in the tournament from St. Thomas Aquinas. He lost 6-0, 6-2 but played the finest tournament match of his high school career! The scores did not reflect the long points and rallys that were played in the match and the outstanding forehand and backhand shots that Kevin consistently hit! Kevin played his opponent really tough and made him work for every point! The shots that Kevin hit in that match were truly his best tennis game that he has played all year!
Samuel Volk and Evan Tipton played an exceptional match against Canton South winning 6-0, 6-0! In the quarter-finals against St. Thomas Aquinas they lost a really close match 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2 to the eventual district qualifier! Both Evan and Samuel played excellent tennis both individually and as a team, constantly communicating with each other to work together as a team and play their best match of the day. After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, they were behind in the second set and played really impressive tennis by coming from behind to win the last three games to force a third set!
Adam Reese and Zach O’Dell played superb tennis and dominated Manchester 6-1, 6-2 in their first match! They then came up against the number one seed in St. Thomas Aquinas! Both Adam and Zach played a magnificent match, hitting phenomenal shots all match long and working together as a team. They made their opponents work really hard to score points! Without a doubt both Adam and Zach played an outstanding tennis match! They played their best match of the year against the number one seed and made them come from behind before losing to the eventual district qualifier 6-4, 6-3.
The OHSAA District Tournament will begin Friday, May 18th @ Springside Racquet Club in Akron, Ohio. Michael’s first match is 9:00am
