The Girls Varsity Tennis record now stands at 9-2 at the midpoint of the season with signature wins over Archbishop Hoban, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and Orange High School. Every girl is playing outstanding tennis! Today’s match against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy was no exception! With the match score tied at 1-1 all three remaining matches went into a third set. Natalie Isaacs at third singles split the first two sets losing the second set 6-1. Her ability to play smart and hit high percentage shots in the third set proved too much for her opponent as Natalie won the third set 6-3 to put STVM up 2-1. Ada Wyszynski and Maura O’Connor at first doubles lost the first set 7-6 (6) in a tiebreaker and came back to win the second set 6-3.
They played really smart tennis in the third set keeping the ball in play, hitting winners and working together as a team before falling 7-5 in the third set making the match score 2-2 with only one match to complete! Allison Tomaszewski at second singles lost the first set 1-6 and then won a tough second set 6-4 to send it to a third and final set to determine which team would win the match! In the third set Allison was down 1-4 and 2-5 before she settled down and fought back with a determination so great that she was not going to lose! She started to play under control, hit her first serves in, played smart tennis and took advantage of her opponents weaknesses. She showed an incredible will to win and was able to win the last five games in succession breaking her opponent’s serve twice to win the match for STVM.
